Morningside Center SEL Classroom Resources

Morningside Center offers an abundance of lesson plans for elementary, middle, and high school classrooms.  Their TeachableMoment lessons can be filtered by subject, grade level, and keywords.  In addition to lessons, the site offers tips and ideas.

Their content is research-based.  Two major scientific studies showed that their program improved students’ social and emotional skills and resulted in dramatically fewer suspensions.

Harmony Social and Emotional Learning

This free program is designed to help children develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to develop healthy identities and relationships.

The skills emphasized include:

  • Recognizing and managing emotions
  • Empathizing with others and supporting them
  • Forming and strengthening friendships
  • Resolving conflicts and disagreements
  • Collaborating on projects
  • Interacting with kids with other backgrounds, experiences, and opinions

Harmony SEL provides extensive training to teachers and suggestions for how to implement the lessons in their classrooms.  It also provides school administrators with implementation specialists.

Safe and Supportive Schools

Safe and Supportive Schools offers training materials to help teachers address and prevent bullying in their classrooms.  There are two modules of training materials, designed to be used in consecutive sessions.  The first module of the training toolkit addresses understanding and interventions to use with bullying behavior.  The second module deals with strategies to use in the classroom to de-escalate situations and create a classroom environment where bullying is less likely to occur.

StopBullying.gov
