Digital Dialects

Digital Dialects offers free online language learning games in 50 European, Far Eastern, African, and Middle Eastern languages, as well as English.  Some games and interactives include audio.  Topics generally covered are intro material to a foreign language, such as numbers, colors, phrases, greetings, animals, clothing and days of the month.  A few of the languages include more advanced vocabulary.

Primary Languages

Learn basic words and phrases in French, Spanish and Mandarin Chinese while you play games.  The foreign language vocabulary includes sounds, numbers, calendar, greetings and introductions, school, food and drink, activities, seasons, animals and weather. There are also videos and songs, but these are viewable only in the United Kingdom.

MyLanguages Language Learning

MyLanguages offers grammar, vocabulary and phrases in 95 languages, from Afrikaans to Zulu. Some of the vocabulary is accompanied by audio pronunciations of the words.

Foreign Language News and Newspapers

MIT Libraries offers online editions of several foreign language journals, newspapers and magazines.  The electronic publications are offered in Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish.

Foreign Language Picture Dictionary

This picture dictionary provides translations for words between English and several foreign languages: Spanish, French, German, Italian, Dutch, Japanese, Portuguese and Swedish.  Students use the alphabetic index at the to go to the page of words starting with that letter.  Teachers will find classroom activities and lesson plans that make use this dictionary.
